Iran marks a long time since transformation in the midst of fights
Iranians across the country marked the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on Saturday with state-organised rallies and displays of military power. President Ebrahim Raisi praised the country's achievements and referred to the protests as a "foreign-backed riot".
Thousands of people marched through the streets and squares, many chanting anti-West slogans, while the military put on display its Emad and Sejjil ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and Shahed-136 and Mohajer drones .
The demonstrations, initially focused on Iran's mandatory headscarf, or hijab, soon morphed into calls for a new revolution . Protesters were heard chanting "Death to the dictator" and "Death to the Islamic Republic" on social media .
The Supreme Leader issued an amnesty covering a large number of prisoners, including some arrested in recent protests . Activists outside of the country say at least 528 people have been killed and 19,600 people detained in the crackdown that followed .
