Pakistan expressed its solidarity with the people of Kashmir on August 5th, 2020, dubbed Solidarity Day, with a call to continue the `relentless struggle' for the right of self-determination.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, declared his country's commitment to the Kashmiri people in a statement released on the occasion:
"Pakistan stands with the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for the right of self-determination and continuation of the relentless struggle against Indian oppressive policies in the region.”
Khan further predicted that the Kashmiri struggle for independence will ultimately succeed in spite of the odds. He said:
“We strongly believe that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will eventually determine their own destiny and right of self-determination in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.”
Pakistan declared the day a national holiday and held several events to show their support for the cause. The events included:
- Thousands of Kashmiri flags being flown in cities across the country
- Car and motorbike rallies held in various cities
- Candlelight vigils held in major cities
- Public readings of the national anthem and speeches from political leaders
The public display of solidarity was a reminder of Pakistan's commitment to the Kashmiri cause and its determination to continue supporting them until the day when their right to self-determination is finally realized.
